The Park Board consists of a five person board. These members are volunteers. One City Council member serves on the Park Board. The Park Board is responsible for all decisions in relation to the City Park, City Buildings and Camping. The Park Board is responsible for a $100,000+ budget yearly. They set the camping rates and building rental rates. They are currently responsible for the following:

  • Community Center: The Community Center houses the City/Utility Office and the Lanesboro Public Library year round. The Park Board and Park Department are responsible for the repair and maintenance of these areas. The building also consists of a dining room, meeting room (Council Chambers), kitchen and an auditorium. The auditorium is rented out the school for use for Jr. High Volleyball and Jr. High Basketball. The rooms mentioned above are rented to profits and non-profits for meetings, family reunions, weddings and other types of personal uses.   • Park: The Park consists of various shelters, basketball courts, tennis courts, playground equipment and a gazebo. The gazebo is also a rentable space under the Park Board. Check out the link called Camping and Conventions for more information!
  • Museum: The City of Lanesboro also owns the Museum Building. The Park Board has a zero lease for the museum, which allows this non-profit group to share the origins of Lanesboro to the public at low costs. The Park is responsible for some of the expenses of this building.
  • Depot Building: The City of Lanesboro also own the Depot Building which houses the visitor center called the Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce and also a DNR office. The Park Department and Board is responsible for this building and the public restrooms attached to the building.
  • Softball Field / Skate Park: The Park Board is also the authority over the Softball field and Skateboard Park.
  • Campgrounds:
    The Park Board is also responsible for the two City Campgrounds. Sylvan Park Campground is directly behind the Park near the ponds. Riverview Campground is located between the Football Field and hand-built dam. The Campgrounds consist of camper sites and tent sites. All camper sites are equipped with water and electrical hook ups. Also the Sylvan Park has operable showers and toiletries and a dump station for waste removal from the campers. The Park Board has a lot of responsibility for substantial City assets. The Park Board works together, to make recommendations to the Council, to ensure that all of these great assets of the community continue to be valuable and usable to residents and visitors.
