HOME > PUBLIC UTILITIES > MEET THE COMMISSION

The City of Lanesboro established a Public Utilities Commission to oversee all administrative functions of the following utilities: water, sewer, electric, and garbage. The Utility Commission consists of three council-appointed members. The Lanesboro Public Utility Commission has one Council member and two non-council members that make up the Commission. The Commission must hold one regular meeting per month and has all administrative authority over the day-to-day functions of the utilities as stated above.

The Lanesboro Public Utilities Commission has the ability to provide sewer services from its own Wastewater Treatment Plant and water from three wells for which it owns and maintains. Electricity is generated from the hydro-wheel, or either of the diesel engines that are housed in the Utility Plant. Electric energy is also purchased from Dairyland Power. The Lanesboro Public Utilities contracts the service of garbage removal through Waste Management. The Lanesboro Public Utilities has developed into a self-sustained fully operational utility service for the City of Lanesboro.
